Tonight I learned of a couple of Sr. High kids who wandered off the property instead of coming to youth group. Fortunately, someone saw them leave the property before youth group and then I happened to be there when the parents pulled in to pick them up. The kids were late returning, so they were caught red-handed.

This just reminds me again of the importance of you parents and I partnering together in this ministry, which is one of the primary motivators for me starting this parents blog.

We all want to trust our kids, but sometimes we need to “trust and verify.” Some ways you can verify your teen’s attendance, etc:

1. You can always check with me about what we do at youth group. Then you can ask your kids what the youth group did and see if their answer matches yours.

2. Know the times of our services. This couple had told their parents to pick them up at 8:30 pm, when in reality, we’re done by 7:45. That extra 45 minutes was unsupervised time that the parents should have been aware of. Just a reminder: we meet on Sundays from 6:30-7:45 pm and Wednesdays from 7:30-9:00 pm.

3.
feel free to contact me with questions about individuals’ attendance, behavior, and concerns. If I don’t know from personal observation, I can check with our adult Quad leaders. We’re happy to let you know what we observe about your kids in the group.

4. I always appreciate it when parents give us a ‘heads up’ if there are special issues, concerns, red flags, or background info that can help me and our adult Quad leaders better monitor and care for your kids.

Hopefully with this partnership between our ministry and you parents, we can do the best possible job of guiding our teens into wise choices and effective growing.
