12:1 Therefore I exhort you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a sacrifice – alive, holy, and pleasing to God – which is your reasonable service. 12:2 Do not be conformed to this present world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may test and approve what is the will of God – what is good and well-pleasing and perfect.
I’m excited to begin this new journey into scripture to dig deep and extract nuggets of truth from God’s Word! I need it! These first two verses are of particular interest to me because they are so familiar. I’m glad we’re going to spend all week on them alone because I know it will force me to slow down and meditate on the layers of meaning for each of the words and phrases.
In scanning over the passage, the thing that struck me was the high number of action words: exhort, present, sacrifice, service, not conformed, transformed, renewing, test and approve. It’ll be good to hear Bob’s sermon and then to follow up by studying the verses in greater detail over this next week!
