12:5 so we who are many are one body in Christ, and individually we are members who belong to one another.

I’ve had some long blogs this week, so i’ll purposefully keep this one short.

one body in Christ. This teaches about the unity we are to have. We aren’t to be divided with everyone pushing for his own agenda. This speaks of a singleness of purpose. I love that here at New Covenant our leaders speak of “leaving your agenda at the door”. We work together as a single unit!

who belong to one another. This phrase is worth a whole day’s reflection in itself. Think about what ths implies if we could sense we truly belong to one another. We own each other. We stake a claim on each other. We have obligations to one another. If we selfishly withdraw from the body and abdicate our presence, we rob others of what we would have contributed.

There have been several times recently when I’ve been impressed upon to thank those in youth group for coming to youth group. There are a hundred places they could be, but the fact that they show up is worth appreciating. I tell them that their presence is a gift to the rest of us — they are sharing their life with others.

Today’s little verse encourages me to say such things more often!

This verse and the ones from yesterday remind me that we are all important. Just because some of us are not pastors or in front of lots of people, that doesn’t make us less important.
